A spectacular piece of Victorian Italianate architecture, the Victoria Mansion was constructed in 1858 by wealthy native Ruggles Sylvester Morse. The brownstone structure features an asymmetrical exterior facade, dominated by soaring pillars and a variety of stylized windows. Inside the building, visitors can tour rooms filled with intricately carved woodwork, sculpted ceilings, scenes hand-painted onto the walls and valuable antique furniture. The mansion is located in the Portland Art District, a few blocks south of the Portland Museum of Art and close to the waterfront.
